I'm very new at X and have done some coding long ago. I'd like some opinions on this before I decide whether to tackle it or not.
On every title bar I would like to move the menu hide/show button to the left with the other gumdrop buttons, have the Title be left oriented just to the right of the menu button and then use the right side of the title bar for displaying icons of running apps for a quick app switcher.
Appreciate any thoughts.

However, that app switcher would take some serious work, as that's what the Dock was created for. However, some people have already succeeded in getting this in the menubar.

Well, I don't think a theme editor will cut it, because all theme editors can change is the picture that represents a widget. They can't change the actual layout of a window.

In Cocoa I suppose you could create a fake AppKit.framework with a custom class posing as NSWindow and just custom-design the window to work that way. But that's really not a very safe proposition, or one that I think most people would want to use. Messing around in /System can break the whole OS.

I don't know how you would achieve it on the Carbon side of the divide.

In short, though, I don't think it's particularly feasible, especially without much experience. I suppose somebody like Unsanity might be able to do it, but it certainly doesn't sound very easy.
