Is there some good cross platform web application development software out there (something that will run on OS X and/or Win/*nix)? A group of us were considering working with Dynamo but due to cost and the fact that it is a pet project, we need to move to something else.

I know little to nothing about web app development, so I am asking here. The first suggestion that came up was Resin, which is free and seems good. I can lend some hardware that can run OS X, which will help only if we can program or run on OSX.

Can any of you here enlighten me?

Web apps should be written server side with little-to-no client-side processing. It depends on what you are trying to do but you eliminate every variable if you write your app on the server in PHP. This also cuts down your testing costs by nearly 100%. Of course, the term "web app" could refer to something that is completely different from what I am thinking about.

If you want something truly cross-platform and client side you could use Java 2 being sure to not deviate from the Sun API at all (even some cell phones can run Java programs these days).

If you say a little more about what you are doing, I am sure that we can be of better assistance.

Hope that helps,
Jeff.

I'm a big fan of Zope with runs on Python. Try it out. The software I'm writing is even better, but... I'm looking at a rather large NDA as I write this.
