ADC really says nothing about this - that I could find. Forum search yielded nothing as well.

Looking at making a Cocoa app that uses a database to store lots of data/records ... it's kind-of a point-of-sale app.

Any ideas?

tnx guys

Any suggestions for what DB to use for making a Cocoa app with an embedded database?

Flat-file is not an option. Need something robust, but free. MySQL comes to mind. v4 can be embedded. Anyone try it with Cocoa?

Seeking options. Thanks.</strong></font><hr /></blockquote><font size="1" face="Geneva, Verdana, Arial, sans-serif">I haven't tried it myself, so I couldn't tell you much about it, but I've heard of a Cocoa API for MySQL that some people are developing. You can check it out <a href="http://mysql-cocoa.sourceforge.net/" target="_blank">here</a> if you're interested. Like I said, I don't have any firsthand knowledge of what all it can do, but it might be worth a look.

You can use Cocoa EOF to build a Cocoa app that access a database but you will need WebObjects to do it. Do a google search on Cocoa EOF and some items will come up.

SQLite is another option. There's an ObjC OO-wrapper available for it called "<a href="http://homepage.mac.com/mouser/" target="_blank">Objective-SQL</a>".

I actually wrote a custom POS-type app for someone, and I used <a href="http://www.paradigmasoft.com" target="_blank">Valentina</a>.

We use (and like) FrontBase &lt;http://www.frontbase.com/&gt;. There are varying licenses, including embedded. You can get a free license for certain uses (development, or even normal use with restrictions) - go to their web site, click on the "buy" link, and choose licenses. A couple of the options are free.
