I know that cocoa/java is the wave of the future for developing in X, but I'm a veteran fortran programmer and carbon seems a little easier to get into than cocoa.

How good is apple's book on programming in carbon? Is it a good reference for all of the different variable types? Is it a good book to get started in X programming with?

thanks...

I preordered the Carbon Programming book from Developer Depot.
See it here.
Developer Depot book

I recently received an email saying it was shipped. I'm still waiting for it.

Like you, I still haven't caught the Cocoa/Java religion. I'm not sure that I ever will. I've seen a lot of religions come and go (actually, they never quite go away).

I hope that Cocoa/ObjC will be the future, not Cocoa/Java.

But the better product never wins as it seems.
