the c++ compiler can't find the sstream library (converting a string to a stream in c++)

for example:
#include <iostream> works
#include <sstream> does not work (works on various flavors of linux, though)

Is OS X missing this library?

okay I may have found something similar with a different name here:
/usr/include/gcc/darwin/2.95.2/g++

There's a library strstream but it doesn't have the same objects as sstream. Is this an older version of the library? How can I get the latest version?
