Besides the development stuff that comes with OS X what else is available to Mac newbies?
I come from a Win32/*BSD/Linux background so I'm familiar with what is out there from that (x86) standpoint. I'm primarily interested in comments relating to the current versions of Basic & Lisp compilers.
Thank you.

Well, for something basic-like try REALbasic, but I wouldn't recommend it. No idea about LISP, but nobody uses that any way
Just get the free stuff and learn Cocoa.

As to your Lisp comment, urm, I'm not going to touch that.
I *do* have the Cocoa stuff loaded though -- bought a few books and it doesn't seem that bad so far.

Subject: Re: Lisp compiler for OSX
There are a lot of options (mostly because of the unix underpinnings)
such as this OpenMCL compiler http://openmcl.clozure.com/ but that is
command line, it seems.
If you want to pay good money try here: http://www.digitool.com/
it used to be sunscription based, but it seems that has changed and it's
only 66 for a student, fairly reasonable, but it looks as if their OS X
version is still under development
you're last option is fink (http://fink.sourceforge.net/) which has
clisp, but it's again command line. Im my opinion, the only thing
command line compliers lack over IDEs is that command line compilers
don't zap you right to the code when you click on a warning.
fink can be finiky though, so be careful.
