Developer tools kills OS9

Folks, after I installed the Developer tools I cannot boot into OS9 on it's own nor can I use Classic. I can boot Classic but the the 'MAC OS 9' folder is invisible (Sherlock and Terminal can see it though) and I do not have access to the apps. On startup my Mac sits for hours at the Happy Mac.
If I boot from OS 9 CD then I can see all of the files but I just can't boot from that drive.
I have OSX installed on the same drive (which may have been a mistake).
I have tried zapping the PRAM, deleting the developer tools, restarting a bunch of times, replacing the system file in OS9 (sometimes this has been corrupted) and running OS X disk first aid.
Also on my disk 'Main' there was a folder that I do not recall called 'Mac OS 9 1' whcih had the .automount file. I tried copying this into the 'Mac OS 9' folder. Still no good.
I am running an original Beige G3 (266MHz) with a 13G drive. The drive has 3 partitions with the first one 6.6G. For original Beige G3's Apple says that OS X has to be in the first 8G so I am wondering if the size of the developer tools has caused the problem.

Just wanted to share what I can:
The Mac OS 9 1 folder on your hard drive is there because Mac OS X creates a folder for every CD you insert into your drive while running Mac OS X. That means you inserted the Mac OS 9 install CD but since there's a folder named Mac OS 9 (Classic) already on your HD, it named the folder for the CD Mac OS 9 1.
Have you tried running Norton Disk Doctor... not just Disk FirstAid? Because I have had some *weird* crap pop up on various occasions where OS X or Developer Tools or something just messes up my catalog b-tree or volume header block or one of those touchy information storage sections of the HD and "The Doc" (as I affectionately call it) has found the problems, fixed them, and then everything's been back to normal.
Problems, for example: I install Photoshop 6. I boot later to OS X. It hangs at "Starting Application Services." Apparently the Photoshop app decided to *share* the *same space* as the OS 10 Applications Services module/whatever. And another instance.... I simply boot up one day... and I'm asked to initialize my hard drive.
I know this is really basic stuff (and not all entirely related or relevant to your question) but just thought I'd throw in my change just in case.

Thanks for the advice. I released later that I had the OS 9 CD in and was hoping that part was ignored!!!!
I have not tried Norton yet because I have not been able to find the beta on Symantec's site for ones that are OS X compatible. But I will give the regular version a try. Thanks.

Help!!! Help!!!
I tried using the Norton Disk Doctor. Now my drive it totally dead. Not just the OSX partition but all three. Unfortunately all of my files were backed up onto the other partitions.
The problem was something about missing a root file and then disk doctor quit.
Am I DOA??? Will volume recover people be able to help me?
