'lo everyone.

I want to better my knowledge of UNIX, and now I want to compile gcc (doesn't have to be gcc, just want something useful so I can learn how to install UNIX stuff). I know C/C++ and a bit of UNIX, could someone— perhaps— help me go through to process of configuring and installing some UNIX program?

Thanks!

I don't know what you're talking about with this gcc stuff, but if you are looking for something to compile....How about grabbing the source for Star Office (from sun), and compiling that for X? I know a lot of people would be happy.

No. StarOffice is yet to be ported, and if you want to port a colossal office suite to X, be my guest, but it will be hard (people will be happy though).

BitchX is written for X, so just download the source and try to compile/install. Instructions are on the site.

btw, you have to have Apple's dev tools. There are no compilers otherwise. They're free, but a 70 MB download. If you just wanted cc then sorry, but that's the only way!
www.bitchx.org (it's an irc client)
