I have three OS X Servers (with all of the latest updates: see specs below)each with their own external RAID 5 devicefrom ADTX. Each of the RAID 5 SCSI devices holds over1600 user directories, software, etc. I worked on setting up these servers this summer using the parent/child info offered on Apple's site and John Detroye's notes. They seem to be running fine until yesterday. For some unknown reason the external RAID 5 drives would not mount on the desktop so I rebooted the machine, logged in and received this alert box:
"You have inserted a disk containing no volumes that MacOS X can read. To use the unreadable volumes, click Initialize. To continue with the disk inserted, Click continue."
I was a little stunned as these disks hold all of student data on them. I went to a client machine, 9.2.2, logged-in and was still able to access all directories, files, software, etc. So I am totally confused on what is going on here. Obviously the RAID 5 devices haven't failed but for some reason OS X Server does not want to mount these drives on the desktop. What is even more interesting is that Apple System Profiler sees both the RAID 5 device and the
Atto SCSI card.
This causes a very LARGE problem because the school district uses MacManager 2 and without the drives mounting MM2 cannot see the share points and therefore I can not add/delete a user, share files, etc.
Could this be a mount point issue?
If there is anyone who could give me some assistance I would appreciate it.
Thanks
