Hi all...

I have posted here a couple times in the past couple days trying to resolve an issue with home directories showing only the Library and Desktop folders.

I had the users' home directories set up as Local with the share point Users selected. This worked fine in 10.1.5. THIS WILL NOT WORK IN 10.2.

Now, you have to select Network and then select the shared volume there. I would have sworn I had tried this, because I had tried just about every combination of settings in the Advanced panel.

Anyway, this may have been obvious to some people, but judging by the fact that there was just dead silence when I reported the problem on these forums, I'm guessing no one knew the exact reason.

The apple tech person that I talked to said they were "tracking the problem" since it had been reported by a number of people.

Anyway, good luck to all with 10.2 Server. It seems to be running pretty smoothly now. Yay.

Cool, thanks for the info. I'll have to create a few more test users now.

I am having the same kinds of problems, but on my 10.1.5 server.

Many users report not seeing there full home home directory. Other report there desktop items dissapear. Sometimes log-ins take 30 seconds with only 80 total users on the server, with 20 of them on at one time. We upgraded our network this summer with all new cisco equipment, and on the windows side of things the network is running GREAT. I am at a loss trying to figure this probelm out.

I have worked with windows servers for years, but am very new to the mac world (basicly this mac stuff got droped in my lap). Where is a good place to get OSX Server info besides apple? Where do other OSX server admin's hang out on the net. Thanks for any help...

Craig, what's your set up like? Are you using Netinfo or trying to integrate it with some other authentication system? Our set up here is pure Netinfo at the moment, but we might be looking into some LDAP options if we can find a way to get AddressBook shared between users.

I will say this... 10.1.5 is kind of a bear to work with. At first I thought 10.2 was fscked up, but that was because I did an "upgrade" instead of a clean install. It seems something was broken in the upgrade process.

As far as your users are concerned... where do you have the user volumes set to? Are they being automounted dynamically at login? I had mine set up with the Users volume shared and set to automount to users in the netinfo/root domain. But, this might not work for you if you've got some other system in place.

I'm looking for a place where OS X admins hang too, because the Apple forums are slower than the Workgroup Manager. Plus, they get censored like every night. Lame.

Anyway, shoot me some more details about your set up and I'll see if I can think of anything that might help. Good luck.

hi there,

i had the same kind of troubles with 10.2 upgraded from 10.1.5.

but when i did a clean install and creating the useres i got the homedirectory on server think to work with netinfo and ldapv3 - just great.

the only problem is, that i cannot manage the user preferences (dock size, ...) from the server, it just ignores it.

i was talking to an apple tech, but i tought him more about osx server than he could help me...

important is, when you use netinfo to manage your network, i foud out that you have to disable the ldap server when you run the directory assistent.

i really would like to have some exchange with people, who do also server managegement, for exampe a special forum....

Reco, are you thinking like a special scheduled iChat discussion or some other forum situation?

I'd be down. Let me know what you were thinking.

I'm also currently trying to set up WebDAV accounts a la iDisk for all my users. Just started this morning, but if anyone's done that already it'd be good to chat about it.

My AIM account is Meddle18. I'll have iChat on all day, so just drop me a message if you're online and would like to chat.

peace
