I have about 5000 or so outgoing emails stuck in my mail server, from an open relay spam usage. How can I get into my MacOSXMailDB and delete these mails? The file itself is over 70 MB. I tried just deleting the file but I guess some prefs are stored there too because when I did all my prefs got reverted and I had to replace the 5000 email file back onto the server. Is there a trick to this?

Server Admin > Internet > Mail > Configure Mail Service > Protocols > IMAP Options…

Check "Allow IMAP Administrator Access." Choose a port (default is 626).

Click "Save." You can quit Server Admin now.

Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Add Account

Fill out all the information for an admin user with IMAP email access enabled. In Mail 1.2, you want to go to the "Advanced" tab and change the port number to the one selected above (default is 626) and make sure authentication is set to "Password." Look for similar options in other email clients. The important items are to have your IMAP connection take place on the port specified in Server Admin, and that the user be an admin user with email access enabled on the server.

Now, if memory serves me correct, you will need to transverse the account in the Accounts Drawer in Mail.

(Account Name) > Hosts > (name of server)

Here, you should find all the emails that have yet to be delivered. Start deleting.

Of course, as soon as I finished typing all that, I found the relevant Knowledge Base Article. Have fun.

Is there an easier way to delete all at once without losing my server's setup? Today I got 8000 fresh ones in there, it would take me ALL day to go in there and delete them all.

How are you losing your server's setup? All you would be doing is turning IMAP Administrator Access on, and then deleting the messages from within a mail client.

Also, why don't you secure the server?

loosing the server's set up was referring to what happens if i just toss the whole Mail DB file. apparently some prefs are also stored in that file. This is knowing that everything in that file is crap. Well i tossed the DB file anyway but since this latest 'attack' my mail server won't work anyway. I can't send or receive anything. Its like it just died.
