We have an Xserve setup w/ OS X Server 10.1. I've created a group for all our office employees and placed their user name into that group. But some employees can save to the Xserve w/ user and group permissions (rwxrwx---), but other employees seem to get (rwxr-x--) so that other people in the office group can't modify the file.

We're using the Xserve as our file server so it would be great if all systems saved and wrote files w/ rwxrwx--- permissions. How do i set this? I can easily do this w/ all PC systems via samba "inherit permissions = YES" variable. But it's random when you connect via appletalk (afp). Some mac systems do it one way and some another. And it doesn't matter if it's OS X 10.1 or 10.2. Is there an AFP setting somewhere for umask? Does anyone else have this issue?

Hope this link works. It goes to Apple's web site, under support, to discussions, under OS X Server, and the thread is called default permissions

This is awful. If we had installed a server at work with this problem, the IT group would have been taken out behind the building and shot.

I chuckled at those who suggested running an AppleScript periodically to reset the permissions. Right. I've got a shared folder with 14,000 subdirectories/files.

This problem will mean the loss of many potential Xserve sales and could do a lot of damage to the Apple platform unless it is fixed pronto.

Has 10.2.2 fixed this huge issue?

Thanks.

Can anybody out there verify Harry Nyberg's post here:

http://discussions.info.apple.com/We...HA.4@.3bb9f811

That he does not have this issue with a UFS format?

What problems might pop up with a UFS format?
