I want to run a VERY basic streaming Quicktime server. I want to run Mac OS X server off my sawtooth. I know this may sound like a newbie question, but what do I need to get the ball rolling? I have Mac OS X server and the sawtooth. I currently have Earthlink DSL, so do I just need to acquire a static IP from them and I can start hosting on that ip? Sorry, I am a video editor and know NOTHING about web design.

You can download the QuickTime streaming server and broadcaster for free from the Apple website. There is ample documentation on how to install and configure the software.

However, Earthlink will throw a hissy-fit if you tell them you're going to run a QuickTime server from home. Unless you purchase a business class connection (which is a lot more expensive), you will run into bandwidth limitations which might include closing your account either temporarily or permanently. Be careful.

Hey thanks a lot!

I just want to use it to stream some of things I do, not really much of a commercial enterprise. Thanks!

It's not as much a matter of whether YOU think it's a commercial enterprise as much as whether EarthLink do.

EarthLink are pretty tight on restricting servers running on residential accounts. It's one of the ways they uphold their 'spam-free' service - limiting servers running on client addresses.
