I'm trying to enable file sharing on one of the 5 computers in our office and have been told to get a static IP address. I was able to upload one IP address (ISP gave us 5) to the ABS, so we now have shared dsl internet acess and LAN but apparently the 5 computers are given DHCP addresses. If I manually configured the TCP/IP of a chosen computer with a static IP address then I would lose ABS LAN & dsl!

Obviously I'm missing something! Do I need the server hardwired to the ABS via an ethernet router? FYI, we're using OS 9.2

You need to setup port forwarding on the base station so that connections to the real-world IP address held by the base station are forwarded to the internal file server.

There are multiple other similar requests here on this board, and the AirPort Admin Utility has a fairly simple interface for setting up port forwarding. All you need to know is the port number(s) for the service(s) you're offering:

http - 80
ftp - 20/21
afp - 548

plus others
