I am about to purchase an XServe for use on our network. This server will perform the functions of several antiquated machines, and consolidate some services for us.

We currently run both an SMS2.0 and SMS1.2 (on a PC, for Macs) server for inventory recording. Part of this puchase requirement (for the Xserve) is that I be able to perform inventory recording for macintosh computers. I have not been able to find an alternative to MS SMS for the Mac platform. Anyone know of one?

I have considered writing a script to run ASP (Apple System Profiler) and then deposit the report in a database back on the XServe. Anyone doing something like this?

If anyone has suggestions for SMS alternatives, I'd love to hear them!
