Okay, now that I've made the switch to an iBook, I'd like to convert my old (and slow--400 Mhz) PC to a fileserver.

Does anyone have any tips or advice for this procedure?

I've installed Mandrake Linux on the desktop before, but I haven't tried to network it with the iBook.

What problems should I look out for?

Thanks,

Jacob

I have found an easy to use server application to run on pc's. Its called ClarkConnect. You can go to http://www.clarkconnect.com and download the home version. I have been running a file server and web server on it for a while. You can have them forward a virtual url to your computers web address for the web server. Im using a 166 mhz Pentium with 32 megs of ram and a 40 gig hard drive. It is a bit slow and would love to have a machine that is as fast as yours. The thing about clarkconnect is that it takes over your whole machine. So if you want to have other systems on it I dont think you can do it. I mounted the drive on my macs and have been sharing file successfully. It also has a web interface to admin from any computer. I also have used terminal in osx to logon to the machine allowing the machine you install clarkconnect on to be run totally headless (no moniter). I think its the best free server program there is.

Good Luck
Greg
