This is pretty sad. I am running a version of Server 1.0 and want to know if there is trouble when upgrading from Server X.1.5 to Server X.2. It is for a large company so I cannot rely on promises and guesses. I have to make a report of this process.

So I HAVE to upgrade this 1.0 to 10.1.5 but I cannot find the necessary updates on www.Apple.com

Where do I alternatively find updates of older OSX upgrades?

note : I am specifically searching for the upgrades that get me from X.0 Server to X.1.5 Server.

Appearantly, Apple does provide X.1.4 but this upgrade relies on X.1.3 which is NOT on apple's server. I did manage to get some upgrades from cover-cd's of macfan, a dutch mac-magazine.
namely :

10.1.4ServerUpdate.dmg
MacOSXServerUpdate10.1.1.dmg

Still, no trace of X.1.3 Server upgrade.

Admins, PLEASE do not move this thread because I am really deep in trouble when I cannot solve this. I posted this question before in the powermac/xserve forum and it was moved to nowhere. I need answers very badly.

You can not download an upgrade that upgrades Server from Server 1.0 or 1.2 to Server 10.x . You have to buy OSX Server 10.2 in a box.

Are you running Mac OS X Server with Aqua (10.0/10.1) or does it have the platnium interface (1.0 aka Rhapsody)?

You are right, but what we want to know if it is hard to transport users from the .1.5 environment to the .2.

The server runs the aqua-interface

Thank you for your input !!

You might as well wait for .3 now.

O.K., you should get your facts straight first: Which Version of Mac OS X Server are you running?

- Mac OS Server 1.0 (as in Rhapsody with a Platinum UI, a la OS 9)

- Mac OS X Server 10.0 (with the new Aqua-UI)

- Mac OS X Server 10.1 (also with Aqua-UI)

So one thing first: You will have to buy Mac OS X Server 10.2 in any case as there is no free update available.

If you are using Mac OS X Server 10.0 or later, you will be able to update your system with the 10.2 CD. However, this is not reccessarily the best route to go. Depending on the number of clients/accounts, you should do a clean install, especially when updating from 10.0. If the number of clients/accounts is large, there are ways to retain the user data.

I can give you more detail once you provided more info (see above).

As mentioned in an earlier post, if the migration is not too urgent, you should consider waiting until Mac OS Server 10.3 (Panther) comes out in autumn. Or at least wait until more detail is available following the WWDC keynote next Monday. (However, one thing that remains is if you are willing to trust a fresh major release...)

Hope I could help!

JJ.

This link, which is on the Mac OS X Server page at Apple describes how to migrate from OS X Server 1.x to 10.2.

He evidently doesn't have 1.0 or 1.2, he has 10.1.something.

By the way, if you DO have OS X Server 10.1, this article tells you which you need to download/install, and in what order.

Maybe. It's hard to tell. He keeps contradicting himself. One moment he's saying 1.0, then he's saying 10.1.5, then he's syaing 1.0 again.

Yes, but he did say it has Aqua. His ineptitude in grasping version numbering schemes is annoying, though.

But that assumes he understands what Aqua means, too.

Or he could be asking for how to upgrade from 10.0.x Server to 10.1.x Server -- for that, you're kinda stuck. As with the consumer version of OS X, upgrading from 10.0 to 10.1 requires a CD, since it's just too big to be a downloadable update. But now that 10.2 has made 10.1 "obsolete", the 10.1 Server CD probably isn't offered anywhere, or is at least hard to find.

You might still be able to find a "free" 10.0 to 10.1 upgrade CD program if you dig around the Apple Support site or talk to them on the phone. But at this point it might be more worthwhile to just wait for Monday's keynote and see about Panther Server upgrade strategies.

Yeah, it was probably removed because that's not where this thread belongs. It didn't belong in OS X, either. This thread is clearly about OS X Server, and that goes in the Servers forum.

And please, be clear about what version of OSXS you're running. Stop abbreviating (including using X in a version number), just type out the whole number, as it is found in the "About this Mac" window.

Thank you for your effort in finding these updates.

It's not easy, I am running into all kinds of problems. At the moment, my server wont restart at all. The only partition recognised is OS9. I'll keep you up to date of my progress (or any other developments)

edit :

look al that Apple site ; it says " Prerequisite Software
Install in Order Listed"

Now where is the sense in :

2002-04-17
Security Update 2002-08-02
1. Security Update 7-18-02 for v 10.1
2. Mac OS X Update Combo 10.1.5
3. Mac OS X Server 10.1.3 Update
4. Mac OS X Server 10.1.4 Update

edit 2 ; I now gathered these updates :

MacOSXServerUpdate10.1.1.dmg
10.1.3ServerUpdate.dmg
ServerUpdate10.1.4.dmg
ServerAdminUpdate10.1.5.dmg

My MACOS installation CD is Server 10.1
