What would be a better OS choice to run a server on this machine? I will max out the ram and put in the fastest HD I can stuff into it. Would OS X, OS X server or Linux be best on this machine?...I also run a free mail server on my current Win2k server...any free mail server software for these OS's?

Alot of questions...thanks for any help...by the way the computer is free and fits nicely in my closet (yes plenty of airflow) thats why i want to use this system.

Thanks for any Help

What, exactly, do you want the machine to do...?

Personel Web Sharing control pane -> Start?

You don't need an industrial strength 'server' for a 10 page web site. Oh hang on, OS X and web-sharing is an industrial strength Apache webserver!

I agree, it would probably be easiest to use a standard OS X installation with the built-in Apache web sharing.

If you want Apache 2.x, this site provides an easy installation and adds a System Preferences pane to control it:
http://www.serverlogistics.com/apache2.php
If you check out the Free Software links on the left side of that page they also have fairly up-to-date installations of PHP and MySQL that you can use with Apache 2.

Finally, I've never used them, but there are a couple free apps you can use to enable sendmail on your Mac:

I forgot about Apache, so sending and receiving mail may be my problem
