Hey!

Need a little advice. I need to setup a webserver for a small website, probably 8,000-10,000 visitors a day and also handle mail for our office, maybe 10 addresses. I have suggested a 1.25 DP tower running OS X Server but my boss wants to buy and Xserve. I think he wants it because he thinks it is cool but I think we would do fine with a tower. We have a small office, don't have a rack and I think the Xserve may be too loud.

Any one have an opinion?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Matt

You answered your own question. The XServe goes in a rack. It should either be in a server room where it can be as loud as it likes, or the rack should have sound dampening capabilities.

Fo what you're doing, a desktop should be perfectly fine. The main advantage of the XServe is hot swappable parts and management and monitoring of multiple units remotely. With a single server, these two advantages are really insignificant.
