I'm posting this on behalf of a friend:

This question applies to both Windows and Linux.

I need to remotely administer an XServe for one of the profs here, but
Apple's admin tools appear to only be available for OSX. I have figured
out how to do most of it from the command line, but it's ugly. Very
ugly. Do any of you Mac folks know if there is an equivalent to Apple's
tools that don't require me to emulate a PPC?

I see the XServe RAID has a java-based admin setup, but the XServe G5
doesn't. :-(

The admin tools for xServe are for OS X only, and will remain that way. The reason why xServe RAID tools are java based is because the RAID can function in a mixed enviroment where maybe no Macs are present (Apple's thinking)

Now, I found that using a VNC server on the xServe (as the ones found here, in particular OSXvnc)
will work just fine, since the admin tools can be run on the local server iteslf once you log in remotely.

Hope this helps.

Alternatively, you could use the Command Line Administration.

Also, you can use fink to install webmin and administer the server from a website. This is different from using Server Admin though--I haven't tried using both on the same machine.
