Hi People,
I'm running OS X Server 10.3 and I'm trying to use it as a web server.
The problem I'm having is this; I CAN resolve the local ip, the nonstatic
ppp assigned ip, and the machine name all with in my my home network and on
the same sub-net but CAN NOT resolve from the outside world. I have had a
bunch of folks test from the outside the residential router and they can
ping the address but the website times out. I have the web service running
and port 80 is set up and enabled on the router. I have an index.html in the proper place. To add to my confusion the Server Assistant program can not find the machine by either the outside Ip or the local. Any ideas about where the problem may be? Any leads would be much appreciated. Thanks..

Server Assistant looks for machines that are booted into the initial setup screen. That won't do you any good. Server Admin is what you need.

If you open up a web browser on your server and enter localhost; do you see anything? If not, you need to turn on your webserver.

If you do, then go to another machine on your local network and type in the IP address of the server. Do you see anything? If not, you need to fix your firewall settings.

Go to a machine elsewhere on the internet and type in your external IP address. Do you see anything? If not, you either have your router configured incorrectly, your firewall configured incorrectly, or your ISP is blocking port 80.
