Hi,

Can I forward a Single IP connection from an X server 10.1.1 to other machine connected to the same hub?

My internet connect via ADSL (PPtP, Alcatel Modem/ANT: IP 10.200.1.1, SubNet 255.0.0.0, Router 10.0.0.138) and another 2 PC's needs to get internet connection.

I tried DHCP but it doesn't seems to work here.
Scince its a Tunneling connection the real IP from the ISP varies, but when I change it it still wount work for me.

Any suggestion?

THKS for your Replay,
I allredy using these 2 apps.(in X 10.1.1 - not the server)

But I was wondering if I can use the X 10.1 Server for that, after all, isnt it
soposed to be a trivial operation for such server OS?

this is precisely what i want to do... ie use osx server to connect and share the connection to my lan while webserving and mail serving too

g4 yikes 400 1GB ram 70GB hd
osx server 10.1.1(all updates applied)
built in ethernet port 10.0.0.1 255.255.255.0
pci ethernet card with realtek rtl8139c chipset and latest working drivers 192.168.0.1 255.255.255.0

and speedtouch home ethernet adsl modem 10.0.0.138 255.255.255.0

i was hoping to use pptp-gui 2.1 and brickhouse to connect and firewall/route
but for the life of me i cant get pptp-gui to actually dial
even in verbose mode (opt click connect) there is nothing showing in the console or /var/log/system.log
not a dickybird not one line of messages
it simply doesnt react when i press connect

i can ping the sth
i can telnet into it
i can browse to its config pages on http://10.0.0.138
i know the pci ethernet card and the realtek beta drivers work well cos i use them to connect this g4 to my lan and im infact typing this message in it via that card and a linux routed shared internet connection

pptp-gui on the g4 will simply not connect at all
there is no reaction
no request to authenticate the system operator to allow the connect .....nothing

even if remove the pci ethernet card
and purge all the realtek drivers
and just use the built in ethernet port
i still get no reaction

however
currently i use a linux box as my router/firewall with two ethernet cards and pptp / iptables...this works fine
also
if i connect the sth to my g3 powerbook lombard osx 10.1.1 (non server) and use pptp-gui
it connects fine

i have also tried the cli vers of pptp in osx on both the g4 yikes (osx server) and the g3 lombard (osx) with zero success (kernel mismatch in the pppd and missing PPPSerial.kext file)

has anyone encounterd this
if anyone has a solution pls could you share it with me
i would be most grateful

how about a cheap little router?

It's a heck of a lot easier.

rofl
that not really the point!!!

i could do that with the STH (in ppp mode) that ive got
but then i would have no firewall
no easy control over routing
using the STH in pptp mode gives me oodles of control and flexibility

and besides its all about projects isnt it! [wink]
and pptp-gui should work
it does work on my other systems
why not the g4 (now with this osx server update)

heres hoping someone else has found a solution
or can guide me to some other tests i could perfrom

cheers

Why don't you set it up on a computer with a pentium 100 running a BSD or linux?

I just hate to waste a mac on something as trivial as routing. Look at the size of a G4 too. You will then have to leave that on 24/7 guzzling power constantly.

I don't want a mac doing my routing.

but it wouldnt be wasted
its on 24/7 anyway
if i can get this going it can be my gateway machine ie firewall/router for the rest of the macs on my lan
it will be my lan fileserver
it will be a web and email server
and also a qt stream server

so you can see why i want to get this going

and actually i have a 200MHz pent linux box with mandrake 8.1 running very nicely
i just want to move away from that

more info on pptp-gui and brickhouse in osx server

apparantly i can run them both if i log into my osx server as root
(this is not a good practice to maintain)
but pptp-gui will only work if i have ONLY one nic enabled!!
now what is the point of that ????

can anyone suggest any routes to solutions for me
using osx server pptp-gui (or similar) and brickhouse (or similar)

i need pppoa dialer and a router / firewall solution software solution

thanks
