Hi, I am running OS X Server 10.1 on a Powerbook G3 with a USB ADSL connection and fixed IP address. I am using the new Alcatel OS X drivers. In the network prefs I have two active ports, the USB Modem and my Built-in ethernet card. I have DNS and MX records provided by MyDNS.com and I have successfully managed to get Web/Mail and FTP working.

However, whenever I set the built -in ethernet card to be configured manually with 192.168.0.1, subnet 255.255.255.0, etc my previously working internet connection and all my web/ftp/mail services stop working. IE. I can't browse to any web sites, collect mail etc.

I want to share the ADSL connection using NAT therefore I need my ethernet card enabled in Network Prefs to allow access to the rest of the machines on my hub. However, if I disable it, the connection starts working again. I have entered my ISP's DNS Servers into the settings for both active ports, but when ethernet is enabled I still can't see any sites or collect mail. This is very frustrating.

I am fairly new to OS X Server, but I had this setup running perfectly under OS 9 using IPNetRouter, EIMS and WebSTAR. Can anyone help or suggest where I can find out more info?

Thnaks in advance.

We'll need more info in order to debug this properly. Can you detail the network settings for each interface?

In general you should only have a default router (gateway) set for one interface. If you've configured your ethernet card with a router address you will run into problems.

Also, you'll need to run some kind of NAT software on the PowerBook to route between the machines on the ethernet network and the USB modem. What NAT solution are you running?
