Software Update 10.1.3 and Beige G3

Well, I have a problem with the software update not being able to finish installing 10.1.3 combined update. It gets into a hair's width of finishing the optimization process, then hangs. I have tried this twice with a new install each time. If I force quit the software update and restart, the mouse will not work. Period. The only solution I could think of is to reinstall. Has anyone had this problem?

I have a beige G3 MT 300 with 324 RAM.
