Here is the scenario: OS X Server 10.1 running on a dual 800mhz for two months just fine. Ran the following updates: IE 5.1 Security, iTunes 2.0.4, and OS X Update 10.1.3 and restarted. Then ran the following updates: Java 1.3.1, Mac OS Server update 10.1.3, April 2002 Security Update.
After a restart, the server took about 12 minutes to come up. Launching anything took about 7 or 8 minutes. Opening any System Preference took about 5 or 6 minutes. The server came up and runs fine. A client could log in and copy 650mb of data in one minute. So the server itself was working fine but attempting to do anything on the server itself was painfully slow.
The only other gotcha was that before I ran the updates, I changed the IP number of the server (so I could run the Software Update utility). The original IP address doesn't have internet access. Could changing the IP address have caused a once fine Mac to become so darn sluggish?
Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated. Thank you! schmo@mac.com
