To FTP the OS X Server, you are required to fill in UserID, Password and Account. I can't figure out what Account information is wanted since I can't find any other reference to account in the settings or literature.

This is what I get when I FTP to my own MacOS X Public Beta box:

Connected to localhost.
220 bling FTP server (Version 6.00) ready.
Name (localhost:dan):
331 Password required for dan.
Password:
230- Welcome to Darwin!
230 User dan logged in.
Remote system type is BSD.
ftp>

all you need is your login and password, which is the same you used when you ran the setup assistant just after installing.

Good one Dan.

What it is asking for is the info required to setup FTP.

There is *not* a checkbox in the system preferences/network/services dir (in my MacOS X PB). I also can not turn on telnetd. There are checkboxes in sharing but they services wouldn't start.

To enable ftp & telnet under Mac OS X PB, you need to edit the inetd.conf file in /etc directory.

Just uncomment the telnet & ftp entry, save the config file, then use the kill -l HUP inetd command to restart the inet service.

The easiest way to turn on FTP and telnet in OS X beta is to go to the System Preferences/Sharing click on the keylock, enter your admin password and click the checkboxes for the options you wish to activate.

There is really no reason why you'd have to go into the terminal and do voodoo to turn these options on.
