Greetings,
I got a CD of Rhapsody Developer Release 2 for $1 and I just had to try it out on my platinum G3. For those who have used this, how does it compare with OSX Server? Was much changed? Was there any speed improvment with the MacOS.app? Are there any apps that I can run on it?
I have to say that I like it. At first I hated the look of the Workspace Manager, but after using it, I really enjoy it. I can navigate through folders with just the cursor keys much faster than with the mouse. Good stuff.

Greetings,
Sorry, I don't want to sell it. I collect CDs of Apple software releases and this is part of that collection.
It's really quite a nice OS. The Workspace Manager is cool, any menu can be torn off and placed anywhere, lots of interface customization can be done, and when a window is moved, even if it's for a game, the entire contents of the window move - not just the outline. It's cool. I had hoped that someone could tell me how it compares the the Mac OSX Server release.

1. Menus can be torn off in Server..
2. Colors can be changed in the interface (window color, titlebar color, etc.)
3. Contents of the window move as well. hehe.
I haven't used DR2, so I can't tell you what else has changed. Much of X Server is similar, as far as I've heard.
OS X, however, doesn't have detachable menus, or interface customization. But, the contents move with the window.

The above post was posted before MWSF, so I'm happy to say that OS X does indeed have far more customization than before, and rumors indicate that Apple will add more and more as time goes by.
They're pushing this like there's no tomorrow, you better bet your life on it

The differences are that there are a lot of bugs in DR2. Specifically the lookupd problems that plauged NeXTSTEP/OPENSTEP/DR1/2/3/Mac OS X Server 1.0 if a bunch of lookups occur and your DNS is a bit slow in responding the machine will hang. It's a huge problem that was fixed in XServer 1.2.
DR2 was much more customizable in appearance (colors/fonts/etc.) DR2 was available for Intel! (Yes I have it, no I won't sell it/burn it/post it) Tear off menus. Basically it was OPENSTEP for PPC that had a modified File Viewer (~Finder) and no dock. The OPENSTEP dock was the coolest and DR2 had a dock in the FIle Viewer that you could drop folders and files, just like the new version of Mac OS X that was demo'ed at MacWorld. They took it out and put it back and I'm happy!
