Aqua is not coming to Mac OS X Server. Once Mac OS X is released, it will be the only OS Apple sells. Mac OS X Server 2.0 (if it exists at all) will be an add-on package for Mac OS X.

Hi,

Apple said all along that OS X would replace OS X Server. The whole "Server" "Client" thing is use to tell the difference between the two during development.

I'm sure after OS X is out support for OS X Server will wane. Server users will be weaned off of it onto OS X.

AS of now, there is a Mac OS X server, without Aqua. Mac OS X consumer is not even out yet, and when it does, it will probably takeover OS X server - Apple will probably sell server packages.

From what I have read, I think OSXS & ASIP will become one product. This would be an addon to OSX. If that happens, then I would expect it to have Aqua. Maybe it could look a bit different, so it would stand apart from the normal package.

Well yeah, if it's running over consumer, it'd be hard for it to *not* have aqua, unless something like kaleidoscope X (if it is to be released) is running. It does sound pretty probable that ASIP and OSXS will be merged into the same product, but I wouldn't expect that to happen completely for at least another year and a half. Technology-wise, OS X is identical and even improved from OS X Server, so everything that server does could easily be loaded as optional modules. Very smart for Apple- Microsoft is still trying to navigate the mess they've made by keeping their two-tiered NT/98 product line technologically separated for so long. Win2k was supposed to be what Mac OS X will be.. a unified step ahead for both the consumer and the business/enterprise market.
I can't wait for WWDC!!!! (not that i'm going, but i'll be watching the keynote!)

So, What exactly was OSX server "for" ? (I'm not 100% sure about all of this information, but...) it didn't have Carbon, It didn't have Coca, So, are they stripping out parts of OSX server (some of the more robust features in a tradeoff of speed and reliability) giving it a much needed makeover and sending it out with a bunch of bells and whistles? I'M just looking for a clear roadmap (past present future)...

OS X Server _DOES_ have Cocoa... It's the "Server" version of the product, designed to serve content to clients (Mac OS 9 currently, Mac OS X as well when it is introduced).

According to a friend who has it, Carbon support is introduced in Server 1.2 (unsure, could someone back me up on this?)

Server has all the server thingies like Apache HTTPd, WebObjects, etc in it
