We are setting up a server system for a small Media company. Taking the advice of many here we will have 2 servers, one for web and email, and one to act as a file server. However the client really wants to be able to access the file server from the web, with PC's as well as Macs, to share simple documents etc.
Is there some kind of VPN software I could use for this purpose. I don't know of anyway for a firewall to do this with out openign holes to the network.
Is there anyway to set something up like IDisk to share simple non secure or secure documents without sexcurity risks to the rest of the network.
What if I had 2 IP addresses, on for the Web Server, and one for a File Sharing Server that had a Firewall running on it? Problem I see is that the File sharing server would be OK with Simple documents on it, but anything else would still be at risk to hacker attacks and loss.
I could also share simple documents on the webserver, and keep the file server behind a fire wall. If that is the case, any reason I couldn't use the Web Server as the firewall as well? If not, then I either need a 3rd server or to use a NATed router, wich I understand offer only limited security.
Thanks for brainstorming with me and thanks for you thoughts.
Thanks,
Greg Montgomery
