Authenticating against NIS, NIS+, etc?

Somebody in the Mac OS 9 forum was asking if there is any way to get Mac OS X Server to authenticate against NIS/NIS+, or possibly LDAP (didn't realize it did authentication, actually).

Additionally, I think somebody was interested in getting MacManager to recognize these protocols, but that seems like a pipe dream. The stored data is just too different.

Anybody had any luck with either of these?
