Hello,

I've recently install MacOS X Server (10.0.3) on a computer. I have completed the Assistant that was opened after installation.

However, I can't seem to use the Server Admin application that that Admin Guide says to use to administer the server. I have tried to use it logged in as a normal user (the original MacOS X one), an admin user, created by the Assistant, and as root. I have also tried logging in with the Server Admin app with those logins, but it made no difference, as I always get the message, "There is no server available at the address 192.168.0.7".

I've tried logging on from both the actual computer and another computer on the same network, but I still get the error. I have had a look at Process Viewer to make sure that the server admin is running, and it shows that "serveradmind", owned by root, is running.

Can anyone help?

Thankyou.

jem,

You need to make sure that you are addressing a DNS server with your IP address included. In a pinch, you can use 127.0.0.1 (your localhost address) as the server IP address. You must be physically at the server when you do this, though. You can also go to the Preferences menu for Server Admin, and tell it not to resolve IP addresses. Hope this helps!

I think Mike-Dog has probably hit the nail on the head. This really sounds like a DNS or Hosts file issue. given the address you listed, you are in a network that is using a private IP scheme, probably behind a firewall or router. Depending on the exact configuration there could be a number of simple addressing problems, or blocked ports through a firewall. If you can post a screen dump of your network settings and Hosts file, I can probably be ofmore service.

Ciao!

I actually discovered what the problem was...

I installed OS X Server over the top of OS X Client, which caused a number of things to break. After wiping the drive and installing OS X Server, all is working fine!

Thanks, though!

Server Admin also breaks when you install on UFS as I understand it.

It is also extremenly tempremental as well! Somethings it requires a restart to get Server Admin to get going. Not that good for a server!
