No. We installed 0.2 onto a stock 9500/200 (after enabling unsupported" configurations in the installer) and it works fine.

Hmm, I saw an article at cnn, I believe. they said that you would have to have a B&W at the least, to use OSX. Is there any truth to that? I have a beige 266DT. I love it.

Does anyone can tell me if OS X works on a G3 accelerated Nubus Mac? A 8100 with Sonnet Crescendo G3 266 and a videocard (pds or nubus)

Thanks

Ok, are we saying that Mac OS X Server will run on Power Macs other than G3's? I'd really like to run OS X Server for it's web serving capabilities.

Thanks in advance.

OS X Server *officially* requires a G3. With a simple patch... =) ... you can get it to run on any PCI Power Macintosh system.

I'll take a look around as for Server patches for NuBus. Chances are, if you can patch the server, you can patch the client.

MacOS Rocks.

Aw shucks! I was hoping I could justify to my wife, the purchase of a G4.

Are there any good (recent) screenshots of OSX?

Mac OS X Server officially runs on any G3 system, but you can get it to run on PowerPC 604-based PCI systems via the "Unsupported Install" option.

MOSXS does NOT run on any older PowerMacs for two inherent reasons.

First, it will definitely not run on NuBus Macs because it requires Open Firmware NVRAM to boot. Open Firmware is only found on PCI Power Macs (not upgraded ones).

Second, there is no support for older chipsets and controllers on older PCI PowerMacs. Hard drive controllers, for example, aren't supported for these computers.

If you need a good server operating system, I recommend you try Linux. It truly is a reliable UNIX-like (it's not officially UNIX for legal reasons) OS, and it's free. It also runs on anything from a IIcx to G4, and certain G3 upgrades will work as well.

If you are unable to use Darwin (because it has the same requirements at MOSXS), I recommend that you try Linux as well. Darwin is basically a port of BSD (another UNIX OS), and Linux provides much of the same functionality.

StepWise (http://www.stepwise.com/) has information on installing on unsupported (namely, PowerPC 604 machines).

I heard at one time that 604's upgraded to G3's also would not be able to run OSX. Has there been any official word on this yet?

www.xlr8yourmac.com

today has a note from a reader who got OSX (DP2) running on a 7300 g3 upgraded with no problems. used the unsupported install feature.

hopefully this is kept so that people can put OSX final on older PCI powermacs.
