Ok, personally I don't like OS X at the moment (it rocks, but the interface is screwed).
Now from what I've heard, OS X server is basically OS X with a decent interface...
So, how realistic is it to use OSXS as my main OS?
Are Carbon/Cocoa/Classic all present? I don't think so...
Can it run carbon apps? Classic apps? What about things with Cocoa frameworks and stuff?
Are apps that work in OS X gonna work in OSXS?
Are the guts all the same?
I got more q's and will ask them when/if those are answered...

os x server 1.2 is a server basically.
It desktop is horrible compared to X Beta. You can't run cocoa/carbon on it either.

I agree that, unless all your apps are OSXS native, it's not a realistic desktop environment. Admittedly, I like many respects of OSXS's GUI better than Aqua (mainly because it has the Apple Menu).

OSX apps won't work, because they require Quartz (Display PDF), while OSXS uses Display PostScript.

OSXS has a Classic environment of sorts, but it runs windowed, can ONLY run 8.6, and it's buggy.

Carbon is nonexistant on OSXS.

OSXS is a much older OS inside, so while the kernel is indeed stable, and the GUI nice, it doesn't have many of the technologies that you would need (for example, the version of QuickTime in OSXS is so old it can't play Sorenson video).

I also feel compelled to mention that OSXPB's server applications are more robust than OSXS's, in many things (e.g. SSH, etc).

Actually, I had OS 9.0.4 running in OS X last week. I don't remember how, I'll try to duplicate it this week. But it was an accident, so no guarantees.

Ok, so basically no...
Oh well...
What do you all think about OSXS being updated?
To be carbon/cocoa compatible and all...
Apple would have to update it eventually... unless OSX client is to take over for it - but that can't be right. Even the pricepoint is wrong

That is what is going to happen. Mac OS X Server will become an addition to Mac OS X in the same way AppleShare IP is to classic Mac OS.
