We are running an OS X server with mainly Mac OS 9 clients connecting over AppleTalk. We have users set up with their own folders, for which they are the owner. When they open their folders, they are always in icon view. If they change the view to list, it reverts back to icon view the next time they log on. We have tried logging on as the administrator and changing it like that, but the administrator doesn't have write access to user folders over AppleTalk. Logging in as root on the actual server and changing it there doesn't work either. Anyone have any suggestions?

Boot your server with MacOS 9.1. Place your windows with the view you like.
Reboot OSX. Et voilà.

Here's another way:

Mount the server share points from a client, using the administrator user name and password. Then change the view for the windows in question.

That should do it ...
