We have just purchased OS X Server for evaluation (I am trying to get the powers that be to pull their noses out of MS's ass long enough to realise their are other technologies out there) but unfortunately all recent Macs have been allocated to users. The only thing we have left is an old G3/266 and I was wondering whether OSX server can be persuaded to run on it?
Thanks
Martyn

Haven't done it, but I've run OSX10.04 on a 7600. I think with enough work you can get server to work on a G3/266.
It won't be the fastest thing around by a longshot in the GUI, but net services should be fine.

I've been running OSX Server 10.0.4 on a Beige G3/300 for several weeks now and have been very happy with the performance.

I just now installed it on a PowerMac 7500 with an upgraded CPU card (still not a G3...).
It works, albeit not swiftly. Thus I would expect it to function reasonably well on a Beige G3 (my next project, btw).
For an easy installation (plus notes on the experience of running OS X (and Server)) on old world machines, you may want to check out the < Unsupported Utility X

I was using OS X 10.0 through 10.0.4 on a 233 mhz beige G3 for about 2 months until my G4 got in and it seemed to be a fine operating system (the GUI was pretty slow). Everything should be twice as fast as OS X 10.1 and OS X 10.1 Server roll out.
