I am a sysadmin on a Mac and PC network with an ASIP 6.3 Mail, File and Print server.

Is there any astounding reason to upgrade to OS X Server? Astounding enought to pay at least $400 for it?

It depends what you do with your current server.

A lot of people are hesitant to upgrade a server when it is working. That'd explain why there are still a whole lot of NT 4 and Netware 4.1 boxes out there still ticking away.

Here is the load of our server currently:
Mail service for about 30 users
File service for about 15 gigs to 12 haevy users and 10 light users
Print service for five printers (two lasers and three film RIPs)
We also have a PowerFile c200 connected to the server.

It works very well for what we use it for, but I can't help but wonder if OS X Server would be more stable than ASIP 6.3. I also wouldn't mind having UNIX type functions available from the server itself.

I am running ASIP 6.3 now on my server, but I will be upgrading to OSX Server as soon as my shipment arives!!!

I have a hard time preaching that Mac is better than Windows when My Mac server needs to be rebooted ince a day, and the WinNT box has been running for a year since its last restart...

Now My Mac server will be stable AND fast!
