Numerous Unix-based OS (for example, Solaris) have ipfw.conf and natd.conf files to set rules for IPFirewall and NAT services. I didn't find this files in OS X Server, however other services such as BIND, Inetd use *.conf files. Is there any way to force OS X use config files instead of create startup scripts and set options for this services in rc. files?
Sorry i can't really help u, 'cause i'm looking for these files aswell. If you've found the solution already (or maybe in the near future) i would really appreciate a reply on my post

If you make a StartupItem that loads rules from a file called ipfw.conf, then sure you can use a file called ipfw.conf. Brickhouse, a GUI frontend for ipfw configuration, uses a similar method, although it stores its ruleset in /etc/firewall.conf.
