Anyone out there playing with Mac OS X and streaming MP3s? I've been building my ultimate portable server on an iBook

I've rebuilt it with PHP Apache Mysql and IceCast all from the original source files - becoming a regular UNIX geek in the process.

Now when crunch comes to push I am stuck when I try compiling LiveIce - it fails - and I'm miserable.

Just wish that Fink had a package for installing it in a more straight forward manner.

However I have hope - that there is someone else out there mad enough to be playing with this on Mac OS X 10.0.4 - though perhaps no one kooky enough to do it on a iBook (500mHz 384M 20 Gig combo drive) .... and hope to do it in time for the live broadcast of friends' wedding next Sunday.

Hope springs eternal though.....

And if I find anything out I'll post it here - stay tuned....

it sounds a really cool project and I'd be interested if you get any further with LiveIce or any other way of broadcasting a live MP3 stream.

nice reason too...

In the meantime I was trying to think of a backup plan. the MP3 streamer is ideal because it's as platform agnostic as possible, but if it doesn't work out, what about using sorenson broadcaster (in os9/classic) to do the streaming in quicktime??

hmm, or I wonder about telephony software...

keep us updated!

Thanks for the tip - I'll check it out.... time is running out though

The trouble I am having is that there are so many dependencies required that on OS X the compiles for LiveIce fail.

I'm seriously thinking of going to Yellow Dog Linux - however there are still issues with PPC being Bigendian and LiveIce complains about that... even when I comment out the tag in the pre-configure setup file (configure.h ?) oh well....

I always say - if it worked first time then you didn't learn anything - at least I am getting my head around some arcane *NIX ****.
