Dear Friends,
We recently moved our X.0.4 server (Lenore) to a new office and set it up with a new IP. Ever since then we've had some odd little problems. This ranges from buss errors to troubles su ing into the box.
Most particularly a colegure of mine can consistantly crach the box by running RIPE tools remotly. When he does this the box locks up, web, ssh, and Aqua. The plate spins and then it gots to text only. Here's what he doing:
"[lenoreACKAGES/ripe-tools-2.4/bin] root# ./networkupdate
% This is the RIPE Whois server.
% The objects are in RPSL format.
% Please visit http://www.ripe.net/rpsl for more information.

% Usage: whois [-aFKlLmMrRx] [-s sources] [-T type(s)] [-i attr] keys
% whois {-t|-v} type
% whois -q {version|sources}
%
% Where:
%
% -k open/close session (persistent connection)
% -r turn off recursive lookups
% -F fast raw output (implies -r)
% -K print only primary keys (implies -r)
% -R show local copy of the domain object (no
referral)
% -a search all databases
% -s source[[,source] ... ] search only databases with source 'source'
% -T type[[,type] ... ] only look for objects of type 'type'
% -i [attr][[,attr] ... ] do an inverse lookup for specified attributes
% -d include reverse domains for look-up by IP
% -l find first level Less specific matches
% -L find all Less specific matches
% -m find first level more specific matches
% -M find all More specific matches
% -x find exact matches only
% -t type requests template for object of type 'type'
% -v type requests verbose template for object of type
'type'
%
% Please note that most of these flags are NOT understood by
% non RIPE whois servers

Disconnected; connection lost (Connection closed.).
Connection to lenore closed."

The only what to get the interface and services back is to reboot. We'd love to hear ideas!

Peace,

The Folks At PSP

PS: We have a G3 with 40 gig HD, 266 memory, and of couse X Server 10.0.4.
Peace, Love, & Understanding,
