how well would osx server double as a workstation. basically i wanna run some server stuff, but i also want to be able to run my workstation applications (office, other design apps) on it. i really want the dhcp server mainly. any problems with doing this? this would only be for a few months until the g5 is out and i buy one of those for my primary system and then retire my g4 to server duties.
thanks

Using OSXS as a server and a workstation is not a problem. All OSXS is, is OSX with added server componets. You even have to apply the OSX updates before the OSXS updates. I use it on my 450MHz Cube at home and have not found any problems with doing this.

its just a terrible practice.
If this is in your house its fine. If this is some kind of business, then no this is not acceptable.

OS X server seems to be a bit behind OS X for the desktop as far as updates go, and I don't believe apple officially supports classic with os x server.
With that in mind, go ahead..

I'm sorry, but this reply is arrogant and unhelpful. We are supposed to simply take your word for this, without any substantive explanation. I'm not saying you're wrong, but with stating your reasons, it is impossible to determine whether they apply in this particular case.
In fact, I see no a priori reasons for or against. If you need the added functionality of server, then you simply need it. If not, then
why bother. I see no inherent danger to running the server version.
