Just wondering if anyone knows if there is an .amr file type player/converter out there for OS X?

I have a load of memos from my T68i transferred to my PB, but can't find any way of playing them in OS X... ideally i would like to convert them to .wav format.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated...

Thanks (as always!)

Marc

The simply answer is there aren't any around for Mac OS X (yet).

The .amr file is actually the standard sound file format used for MMS, and the format is so new that there's only a few special utilities available for PC to play or convert .amr files.

I was thinking to put in a post in the developer's forum and see if any developer would be interested to develop one. Is there anyone else out there want to have a utility to play or convert MMS' .amr sound format for OS X??

Well I might not be 100% correct after all!

There is no Mac OS X native (I mean Carbon or Cocoa) utilities available (yet), but there is a Perl script that can do the conversion. The problems are you will need to download 5-6 different packages and compile it on a terminal screen before you can use that Perl script.

If you got time you can try it yourself.

Good luck!

Thanks for the link... I have some spare time in the next few days so may give it a go! Time to dust off the O'Reilly books and brush up I guess...

Cheers,

This is being discussed in the Peripherals forum. Someone has found a way, but I haven't tried it yet.

Looks like we'll be seeing ARM support built right into QT, at least according to eWeek. Good thing as I just got a T68i.

Apple initially indicated that it would include 3GPP support with QuickTime 6.1, which it delivered in January. In a 3GPP fact sheet Apple released in December, the company said QuickTime's 3GPP support would include export capabilities to the .3gp file format, as well as an interface for video, audio and text settings. According to the fact sheet, supported formats for 3GPP would include the MPEG-4 and H.263 video codecs; Adaptive Multi-Rate (AMR) audio; and 3G Text.

Yeah, but when I transfer the sound recording over to my Mac via Bluetooth, QT says it can't play the .amr file?

Any ideas? (Or is it just me?)

yeah, I had a small .3gp movie from a Nokia phone that I tried to play -- same deal. QuickTime applied the appropriate 3GP icon to the file, but wouldn't play the dang thing.

Maybe this stuff only works within Steve's RDF zone.

my bad! It turns out that having QuickTime 6.3 is not enough. There is a separate 3GP QuickTime Component that you must download and install. I did, and it works just fine.

Yeh, it'odd, and a little bit confusing that they didn't just include that along with QT6.3. Regardless, I d/l'd it and tested an arm file from my T68i. It works just dandy. Nice one Apple.
