Hi, with 3.01 Apple allows users without a superDrive to use iDVD. This is good news as I have a PB 400 without superDrive and would like to work on projects on the go before burning DVD on a G4 tower. I have the iLife suite that comes with an install CD for systems without superDrive. However, under Custom install, there is no iDVD3 listed, only iPhone, iTunes, and iMovie. Any idea? TIA

Just a quick correction. The install CD that came with the iLife suite that contains iDVD requires a superDrive to be present. So how can I install iDVD3 without a superDrive to update to 3.0.1 in order to use it?

Whoa, I need that!

P.S. To answer your question...there "was" a Patch going around and on some sites; however, not sure where to find it anymore to allow non-SuperDrive computers to run iDVD....

well, i found the answer at the apple support forum, which is unusual as most questions do not get answered the way this forum does.

The following steps should allow for the installation of iDVD 3 on computers without a SuperDrive:

1. Insert the iLife DVD

2. Highlight the iLife Installer

3. Select Show Original from the File menu

4. Open the Packages folder

5. Double-click the iDVD.pkg

6. This should now allow the installation of iDVD.

Note: The computer MUST have at least a DVD drive (iLife disc is a DVD). You will need to update to iDVD 3.0.1.

The Apple Knowledgebase Article you mentioned should see an update soon to include this as well.

look for "DVD Enabler 1.5" on Aquisition (orig released by Other World Computing until Apple forced them to stop... search for the story on Goggle if interested -- I forget the whole spiel)

Official support of non-Superdrive Macs is one of the changes in 3.0.1.

I read more and you can use it, but you can't burn DVD without a superdrive, so who cares?
