do i experience a horrific latency of up to 7 seconds for the Bookmarks menu to be displayed after clicking the menu? This is also the case for the History menu when it contains many listing.

Other browsers don't seem t suffer this. I suspect its due the the bookmark icons. So why are they not cached then?

PowerBook Firewire, 512 meg, 900Mhz CPU upgrade.

Dual 500 G4 768 meg, similar latency issue tho about 4 seconds.

Under Mac OS 9x in iCab with same bookmarks there is absolutely no human detectable latency when displaying ANY menu.

What is wrong with Safari OS X and Quartz???

Indeed, this is one of the more annoying things about Safari (though, once you've opened the menu once after launching Safari, it will display faster the next time until you quit).

Same here, it's as instant as all the other menus. Do you have millions of bookmarks nested really deeply in subfolders?

I have almost totally stopped using the Bookmarks menu altogether. I just use the bar for frequently accessed pages and the Bookmarks tab for all the other stuff.

This is just Safari loading all of the icons for each webpage in the list. Notice any menu that doesn't have the small icons for the websites loads instantly.

Try putting your Applications folder in the dock, then ctrl-clicking on it. Notice you will see a long pause there too.

I only notice a delay the first time I open the bookmark menu after launching safari. Your delay never goes away?
