I added a second hard drive to my computer this weekend (120 GB - woo hoo!). I'm running the old one as a backup drive and I set the scheduler of Carbon Copy Cloner to perform the backup weekly.

I have two questions that the FAQ doesn't answer: Will CCC launch itself to perform the backup, or do I need to run it continuously?

Also, will the backup launch if the computer happens to be asleep?

BTW, the 8mb cache on the new drive makes a noticeable difference. Very nice!

You know, have you tried to contact Mike Bombich directly... he's totally accessible. And when you do get the answers (if not through a Board Reply), plese post them.

Thanks!

Does anyone have his e-mail address? I can't find it and his forums are down.

CCC does not need to be running for the auto-backups to run. I've got my work machines both set up like yours, and every Wed. morning at 8:35, ditto fires up all by itself (you can watch it in top) and clones the drives. Basically, you're using the CCC GUI interface to write a UNIX shell script that runs independently of the app once it's written.

Doubt it will work if the machine is asleep, though.

OK, I have it set up for 11PM Sunday. The computer is usually awake at that time, but I'm not. Can I assume that the computer won't go to sleep until the backup activity stops?

One would think, but apparently being in mid-download won't stop a computer from sleeping, so don't be too sure. It seems like it takes at most 10-15 minutes to clone about 5-10 gigs of data for me.
