Just tried to do a video chat with 2 macs running ichat av. I have an isight on mine, the other doesn't.

Is there a way to send video one way, with just audio coming back.

I couldn't figure out how to do this. When I connect to the other person, or initiate the chat, the camera icon is greyed out.

Thanks,

J.

In iChat on the machine that has the camera, control-click on the user you want to talk to on the other machine. A menu will pop up with "Invite to One-way Video Chat" as one of the options.

A friend of mine tried that the other day with me and we got nothing out of it...we were all excited to find out the option didn't work for us!

Perfect. That did the job.

Many thanks,

J.

I found that one of two things can help things along. Try establishing an audio connection first; if you can do that, the video almost always works. Second, try restarting iChat on both ends of the connection. After a couple failed attempts, iChat will sometimes get hosed to the point where it can't connect to anything.

Ok, now I have this problem.

My friend just bought my 17" Powerbook. I have an iSight and he doesn't. When I right-click on his name, the options for one-way video chat are grayed out. Any reason why? What toggles that on or off? My other friend with the same system and also with a cable modem CAN do this.

Does he have Firewall enabled? Does he have the necessary iChatAV ports open?
