Short story - Bought a new internal drive. Downloaded Carbon Copy Cloner to see if I could copy everything to the new drive. Rebooted in the new drive. (was amazed that it work w/o a hitch!) Then, I ran Apple's Disk Utility to check up on things. Got the following while trying to Verify the original drive while booted into the new one

UNMOUNT FAILED
The disk "Hard Drive" failed to unmount because it is in use. The operation has been canceled.

Does this mean perhaps that some of the Applications and/or Docs have been opened from the original drive?! I certainly hope not - because I was planning to wipe it

It's concievable that if you're launching app from the dock on the new drive that they could still be mapped to the apps folder on the old drive. I've had that happen with the dock and with DragThing when CCCing and booting from the cloned drive.

Do a command+ click to "show in finder" from the dock to see where the dock thinks they are. You my have to re-configure your dock on the cloned drive.

I've had the "unmount failed" thing happen randomly for no apparent reason too, though.

CCC also creates a 'sparse/temp' file when using that "ditto" command...it could possibly have been on that old drive still, therefore making it not mount since the drive was still in use...
