I am looking for a good slideshow software application.

I want to take different size photos (some are old and some are more recent) and have a slideshow with music that can then be put on a VHS tape and DVD. I want to be able to use transitions and have the final slideshow a fairly decent size that can be viewed without squinting

I am not real happy with iMovie for this.

Also what is the best resolution to set up the photos? Some of the photos I want to use have been scanned in from old slides and they are very large.

Any help would be appreciated.
