My father is going to be starting to publish a newsletter about his hobby, and he wants a relatively cheap and easy to use program that will allow for the layout of text and graphics (for OS X). Nothing particularly fancy. He has Word X but I don't think it might be a little tricky for him to use for layout of graphics and the like. Any suggestions for shareware, etc?

Depending upon how comfortable your friend is with it, install X11.app and then KDE from Fink. I believe that KWrite does reasonable simple publishing.

I don't think so, but thanks. The key word here is "simple."

I second that suggestion, and it is the easiest to use.

We've used AppleWorks at our church for 8 years to publish a newsletter. It can do columns, insert and edit graphics and charts. I'd definitelly give it a try.
