Hey all.

I've been working on DVD creation lately, and I want to find some software to help me backup my large amount of workfiles onto severall CD's or DVD's. Toast doesn't seem to be able to do this (at least that I can see, maybe someone can show me different). I know Apple Backup will do this, but you have to buy .mac, and I don't want to pay for it just for the backup app.

What are some other good alternatives? I am willing to pay a little for it, but a free solution would be even better.

thanks in advance.

I use Carbon Copy Cloner and Lacie's free SilverKeeper 1.0.1. They both work great and allow me to backup my G4 to an external drive. I haven't archived anything onto DVDs or CDs yet, but I believe that Carbon Copy Cloner is capable of doing this. Check it out at VersionTracker.com.

Are there any free apps. out there? I'd love to backup everything before Panther comes. My 733 tower doesn't have a DVD burner...

How do I spread it over a few CD roms?

There's an app called DropSegment by Aladdin in Stuffit Deluxe...it lets you split up an archive file into chunks of something like 600 MB to archiving onto multiple CDs.

I've never used it so I don't know if it'll do what you're looking for but you could take a look.

As for the original question, Retrospect by Dantz is the big commercial backup solution for people. Worth taking a look at, I think.
