hmmm...there are many, depending on your needs. I like X-Chat Aqua myself, or KSirc when I am in X Windows.

I've fallen in love with Minerva. If you liked mIRC on the pc then you should love it too...

I even registered it! I can't even rember the last time I registered some shareware!... may have been Wolfenstine 3D back in the day.

All the recent IRC apps are ok. They just don't seem to have all the features I need.

Snak seems to be the most mature.

It's all a matter of preference. Search the forums and you will see several threads discussing the advantages/disadvantages of each.

I use ircle for OS X and BitchX for Linux.

I'll second that for irssi.

It's a VERY nice command line client. But, if messing around with the CLI, fink, and unix isn't your thing, then I'd recommend X-Chat Aqua.

Both are free open-sourced projects.

I'd throw my vote for iRC. Simply the best next to mIRC for Windows.

BitchX. I have a screen'd group of BitchX sessions running on an OS X Server box, and I ssh into it and resume the screen from wherever I am (home, school, work, etc).

This way I never have to quit/launch irc apps, I just leave BitchX running for months at a time.

There are so many mediocre IRC programs out there. I used Snak in OS 9, but in OS X, it seems so out of date. I would use Snak if I wanted to use scripts and what not, but I use iRC for my simple chat needs now. Besides, iRC just got AppleScript support...

It has the best Cocoa GUI (although still room for work IMO) and just plain the most straightforward program.

One question about iRC though: does anyone know how to do command shortcuts? Like "/j macnn" instead of have to type "/join #macnn" every time? That gets annoying.
